Statement made on behalf of the Security Council, 3834th meeting, 14 Nov. 1997, in connection with prior consultations held among members on the item entitled "The situation in Sierra Leone". Reiterates its condemnation of the overthrow of the democratically-elected Government of President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah; expresses full support for the efforts of the Committee of Five on Sierra Leone of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS); calls on the junta to fulfil its obligations under the peace plan; reiterates the need for the provision and distribution of humanitarian assistance.
