Abstract

While economic sanctions have become increasingly popular political and economic tools, their implications on the effective implementation of the commitments under the international climate change regime are often overlooked. This chapter explores how economic sanctions undermine the global climate change regime, inter alia, by reducing the capacity of the targeted countries to meet their commitments by drawing lessons from Iran.
