Abstract
Respect for the rule of law enables the UN Charter to achieve its aim and objectives. Chapter VII of the Charter authorises the Council to undertake certain measures for the protection of the aims and objects of the Charter. Article 39 of the Charter permits the Council to intervene in certain conditions; and in accordance with the provisions of Articles 41 and 42, the Council is allowed to intervene only after determining the existence of any threat to the peace, breach of peace or act of aggression which disrupts international peace and security. These sanctions are multilateral in nature and one of the peaceful means offered to the Security Council for the preservation of its object and purpose.
