Abstract

Economic sanctions imposed by the Security Council are a link of enforcement actions empowered by the United Nations Charter Chapter V11.The imposition of economic sanction after cold war functioned on the one hand as a symbol of demanding and enforcing the sanctioned country to comply with international law and on the other hand the implementing of the sanction causes a humanitarian disaster to the targeted country undermines (not promotes) the human rights diminishes the effectiveness of economic sanctions. Therefore the economic sanctions imposed by UN should be guided by human rights principles and humanitarian law.
